My name is Louis-Charles Tiar. Call me Louis. I will be your GRAPH-3271 Section 1, Intro to Web Design, instructor during RISD's 2017 wintersession term.
I look forward to offering you a class that balances a trifecta of web design as an applied and decorative art, web development as a technical skill, and net art as a contemplative proposition. We will examine how programming fits into the evolution of graphic design. We will familiarize ourselves with industry best practices. And with your participation, we will reflect on and share our own ideas about what is or can be beautiful to us on the Internet.
There will be short assignments during the week, and longer more complex readings and assignments over the weekends. All of these build on each other so keep up. You will be invited to further develop one of the larger weekend assignments into a final project. These will be critiqued at the end of the term.
This syllabus is a work in progress. As our term marches on, I am likely to make changes to keep pace with the class' progress. I'll advise of any material changes over email. Should you have any existential questions, scathing comments, career advice, or troubling concerns: My email is ltiar [at] risd [dot] edu and my mobile is +1 (917) 860-6753.

With my warmest regards,
